As a child, I was told “you are okay, but don’t worry you will get a real job.” I was also told “that’s a great hobby.”
In the back of my mind, I had a hard time settling for that. I longed to be creative in drawing, painting, and what I love to do. Throughout school, I had the hardest time with spelling and grammar, but when it came to stories, I had hundreds. When it came to imagination I had the biggest. School projects would come, and over and over, I would be picked first because of my artistic skill and vast ideas. There are people (let’s call them Creatives) that I believe God has created to be bringers of visions, genius ideas and change. He is calling Creatives to stand, shout , sing, write, paint, dance, create and bring change to this world. Then there is something that is subtly against Creatives, telling us that our imaginations, our perspectives, and our change for this world is just “a hobby.”
This is one of the reasons why I paint, why I long to bring others to a place to risk being a Creative.
