The Lord has been opening doors for us to get favor with local Thai artists. Through our ministry leader, Pan Piawong, and his connection with local Thai artists, there is an art studio/bed and breakfast in downtown Hua Hin called Fulay. I’ve had the opportunity for the last couple weeks, and continuing into the future to paint and sell my art there. A little bit that you need to know about this area is that it is full of tourists, it is very artsy, but it is also right on the outskirts of the small “red-light” district of Hua Hin- meaning there are bars and massage places where women sell themselves.
We, as a family, go there on Thursday evenings. I paint and sometimes have conversations with locals and tourists about art and about Jesus. Stephanie has an even greater opportunity to share the love of Christ there. Elijah is an amazing child- boundaries and judgment do not live in this child. He is not afraid to walk up to anyone and wai (putting his hands together in a “prayer” position near his mouth), blow kisses, high-five or let them hold him for a short time. He loves to move and keep mommy on her toes while walking around this area. Love overflows in this child. This give Stephanie the opportunity to have conversations with local people and especially other moms. We are still praying and asking Jesus what He wants to do. We have stepped in faith to just be present in this place and be a light to people. Please just pray for boldness and our eyes open to what Jesus wants to do. Pray that He becomes our boldness to speak about Him. We have also been praying a lot about this area, as well, for right around the corner is the red light district of Hua Hin.
Hua Hin red-light district is really hidden- unlike Bangkok, Pattaya or other big cities. The reason is that one of the King’s palaces is located here. Because of this, they have banned it from the city as a business. There are still “freelances” or shady Thai massage places. This is just the tip of the iceberg, we have come to know. This isn’t why we came but it is still hard to ignore this when it is clearly present here. Our hearts break for this perversion in the city. This is why we go as a family in this area to paint. The studio is not directly in the red light district but it is on the out skirts. Be praying for this as well for Stephanie it has touched her heart many times. Again, we are just asking the Father what He wants to do in this.
The Contrast House Art School
Imagine an art school that brings life transformation and great skill to artists in such a way that enables artists to live as they are meant to, to bring God’s presence to earth. Have you ever wondered why great motivational speakers (preachers), musicians (worship leaders), movie producers, or any Creative do so well and are in high demand?
Well, I have a theory/thought.
I believe that in all of us there is a spot that God created to bring glory to Himself. Unfortunately, some use that to bring glory to themselves. But I believe God made Creatives to bring His presence, wonders, mysteries to His people to see His glory. The enemy longs for us to hide our God-given talents- “oh its just a hobby,” “No I am not good enough to do this,” “I need to focus on my business so I put it aside.” We minimize the Creative in us.
There is another lie that has us use it for our own personal gain to bring our own glory. However, God gave us our creativity to use for His glory. He loves and cherishes when we use it for Him. He has given it to us to use for greatness. Our imagination and creative skill- yes, some are born to jump high, sing heavenly, paint breathtaking pieces, etc.; yet I believe there can be in any of us a creative awakening in such a way that brings communities to see God’s glory, and bring change for life and complete wholeness.
With this said, there is a great possibility to have an international art school here in Hua Hin. Pan, our ministry leader, has expressed that he has been praying for such a thing here. Through Jesus, we long to see it here and are praying to start it up by next spring/summer. Please be praying about this. We desire to breakthrough the stuff that holds Creatives back from giving Him the glory and bringing Life to communities.
We as a family are still settling here. To be honest, we are at a hard place. The transition has been rough, especially with a baby. Our financial support is still not all there and we are also a little home sick. We are just wanting to be honest and transparent that it is not all rainbows and butterflies here. One thing we are so grateful for is the ability to be in contact with loved ones via the internet. I can’t believe how some missionaries have no contact with friends and family.
We know this is a process of faith and having God provide. There truly are super sweet times, where the Lord meets us. We love it here, it is just that we miss people, and walking by faith is challenging. Please pray for us in this. We know that this is nothing compared to what’s happening in the world right now. Our hearts are completely broken and we are constantly praying for God’s glory to come to other parts of the world.
Elijah is growing more and more each day. It blows me away how much he learns and how smart he is. He is brave, strong and one of the sweetest people I know. Well thanks again for reading our blog. Please contact us if you have any questions. We would love to here from any of you.
